Thank you Exquisite Vintage Jewels. This is such an unusual and rare item. Research and my reference material lead me to believe that this is attributed to a design by Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell.
In the book, "The Great Pretenders" [page 137] you will find a similarly constructed clip (unidentified). The green clip from the book has glass balls hanging from the side of the'tank tread' links where my pendant has dark blue bullet cabochons on the side and a large piece of blue art glass hanging from the bottom. The unique design has been described as "Mechanical", inspired by WWII tank treads (tracks).
I have a photo of the pendant taken from the side where you can see that the links all move independently and can wrap around your finger. Just as tank treads (tracks) rotate to give the very large machine tanks agility. I think it is a fascinating piece. The dark blue bullet glass cabochons couldn't be more perfect as an accent to this very unique pendant. I added the jump ring and the sterling necklace with a triangular shaped bail.
I thought that they all looked very good together. The rhinestones are held in similarly to channel set stones, however many of the stones flow freely. Be prepared that this is a very old item and you may see stones loosen which will need to be addressed. For its age the rhinestones are in remarkable condition - bright and sparkly as are the blue glass accents. Approximate Measurements: Pendant - 2 7/8" x 1 3/8" Necklace - Approximately 18. Exquisite Vintage Jewels Exquisite Vintage Jewels Exquisite Vintage Jewels.
