Rare Seiko Prospex Sumo SBDC003 Blue Red PADI Homage Supermod Sapphire. This is one of my private collection watches that I modded never expecting to sell it. Ive never worn the OEM bracelet so it still has its protective plastic in place and has never been resized. Seiko have released a number of watches under the PADI family all with red and blue combinations reflecting the colours of the PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) association. But none of them really appealed to me so I ended up building this version the way I would have liked Seiko to have done it. Ive only ever worn this watch on a rubber strap hence the bracelet being new and untouched. The watch is in extremely good condition except for a mark on the bottom left-hand lug and right-hand lug which you can see in the photos. The protective blue plastic is still intact on the back of the watch but a little torn from being worn. The Seiko SBDC003 model is now discontinued but was a beautifully designed watch with classic proportions, with sweeping lines and curves, a wide-gap coin edge bezel which is shrouded on the case sides by the case shoulders (check out the pictures as this is the most appealing part of the case for me), a partially recessed screw down slotted and signed crown, drilled lugs and a combination of highly polished and brushed angular surfaces to catch the light and reflections as the watch moves on your wrist.

And of course, it houses the high-end Seiko 6R15 provided high accuracy, automatic and manual winding and hacking. This watch is currently gaining less than 5 seconds a day picture of testing available if required. And then I modified it see the details below for the parts used in the mod.

Before I get on to the modification details, here are the specifications of the original watch. Case Size 50 x 48 x 13.3mm. 6R15 Calibre - 23 Jewels - 50 Hour Power Reserve. Automatic winding with manual winding and hacking.

And now to the modification. The parts used in this modification are as follows. New aftermarket sunburst royal blue classic Seiko Diver homage dial. New aftermarket silver and red handset.

After market Double domed AR sapphire. After market count down big number bezel Pepsi insert with silver inset markers, inverted red triangle and lumed pip.

This dial is a classic deep blue sunburst dial with raised applied indices with silver surrounds. Reflected light runs around the dial as you move the watch in sunlight. It really catches the eye. The applied lumed indices with silver surrounds (including the silver surround for the date window) really add class to this dial.

There are minute markers around the outside along with 5 minute counters in Arabic numerals. The only other print on the dial is the word Automatic which of course is true. After-market Red and Silver PADI Style Handset.

This handset was not a matter of choice it just had to be. Its in the style of the now discontinued SKX handsets with the exception of the bold red second hand which was sourced from Dagaz.

The hour hand is silver while the minute hand is red in keeping with the high visibility requirements if you are measuring time using the elapsed time bezel. After-market PADI Style Pepsi Bezel insert.

The red and blue of the Pepsi insert picks up on the red minute and seconds hands and completes the PADI look for this watch. I also chose this insert because the numbers are in silver picking up on the case and the silver on the dial and the hour hand. I think it all comes together very well do you?

There is a lumed pip at 12 oclock in the inverted triangle. The SBDC003 came with a Seiko hardlex crystal which was great but is just was not sapphire, double domed or with internal AR coating and this one is. I really like the Seiko Hardlex crystals but I just loooooove high quality DD sapphire crystals which this one is.

The lume is good but it is not to the super super high standard of the original Seiko lume on the hands just want to be clear on that. Big (but only 20mm lug width of course) bold and beautiful with solid end links and double fastening clasp with micro adjustments. The bracelet has never been worn or opened or resized. And the protective plastic is still in place and has never been removed. Just a word on the homage thing....

This is a brand-new Seiko watch that has been modified to have a cosmetic look close to something I really like. It is not pretending to be anything other than that. If this little beauty sells, it will be sent internationally via DHL Express.
